About Ashley

Why do you think integrative therapy is the most effective form of therapy?

I think that it encompasses a variety of ways of working thus meeting the needs or the varying client base and does not limiter neither the client nor the therapist. It enables me to adapt to meet the needs of the client whilst still remaining confident in my ability and knowledge

Why did you choose to become a therapist?

I wanted to further my education and realised that my original career path had changed. I had originally began working for the court service and after 16 years I moved to work as a family support worker then into a local council in family support services. I had really enjoyed the transition from admin office work to face to face and felt comfortable in the helping position whilst still retaining a sense of realism that I could not fix or rescue people and that it was about empowerment. I was also of an age 45 when I thought that my life experiences could help other people. It was one of the best things that I have ever done

What is your favourite place to visit and why?

I enjoy visiting both Whitby and Ambleside. Both are very historic towns with their own unique history and with a slower pace of living. I have visited both numerous times over the years and as a result have many positive memories in each. I feel comfortable and at home in each and am sad to leave which for me highlights why I like them

How would you describe your therapy session & approach?

A combination of person centred, CBT ( I talk CBT rather than us sheets I use sheets when I feel they are appropriate for the client) I would say that I adopt a compassionate focused approach. I obviously exercise the core conditions of empathy congruence and acceptance that are essential to any client therapist relationship. I feel that I am honest and real in my approach...the client is the expert on themselves and the sessions are a safe confidential space to explore emotions and increase self awareness
