Every client is unique. Being able to draw on knowledge and understanding from multiple theories, perspectives and methods provides me with a greater opportunity to connect, support and help my client achieve their therapy goals. For me therapy isn't 'one size fits all'. People resonate and respond to different approaches. A tool box with only a hammer is no good at painting walls!
I've always been interested in Psychology, behaviour and change. Everyone deserves the opportunity and the safe environment to be supported, to learn and to grow. I'm passionate about facilitating that process and I enjoy working with people in this way.
My favourite place to visit depends on my mood! Some days, it could be outdoors, maybe walking through the bluebell woods with my favourite people around me, hearing the birds singing, twigs snapping. Being in the fresh air always makes me feel good. Other days it may be a finding a cosy nook in a cafe/pub, (preferably with a fire!) with a latte, lump of cake and a good book or a good chat with a friend. This always makes me feel relaxed and content.
I like to use Carl Rogers 'Unconditional Positive Regard' when working with my clients. Building a relationship of honesty, trust and support is extremely important to me as part of the therapeutic environment and process. I aim to create a space where my clients can speak entirely freely, be listened to and have their feelings acknowledged and validated.
Providing the situation is right, I like to set intentions and goals to help ascertain where we are now and where we would like to be by the end of the process. I like to help my clients learn about themselves more by sharing theories, methods and tools.
I like to build a professional yet real relationship with my clients, there can be humour in our sessions, it's not always about exploring the more negative aspects.
The sessions can be relaxed and organic in nature or more focused depending on the needs of the individual.
